Your Guide to Little Presque Isle’s Cozy Lakeside Cabins

Table of Contents

Nestled in the heart of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula lies the Little Presque Isle State Forest, a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. Among its rustic treasures is the Harlow Lake Cabin, a peaceful off-grid retreat offering seclusion, breathtaking scenery, and endless adventure. If you’re searching for a unique cabin experience surrounded by natural beauty, this guide has everything you need to plan your next getaway.

About the Little Presque Isle Cabins

Little Presque Isle is home to six rustic cabins, each with its own unique charm. For our stay, we chose Cabin #4, a peaceful, hike-in retreat nestled in solitude. Similarily, Cabin #5 is another great option for those craving quiet, however cabins 1 – 3 sit closer together and would be perfect for families or larger groups looking to rent multiple cabins side by side.

Just half a mile from the parking area, the Little Presque Isle cabin offers the perfect escape into nature. The short hike is manageable in any season; however, in late winter, we were thrilled to find the trail still blanketed in snow which was ideal for pulling a sled stacked with water, food, and heavier supplies.

How to Get to the Little Presque Isle Cabins

The Little Presque Isle Cabins are located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, within the Little Presque Isle State Forest. The area is just a short drive north of Marquette, making it both secluded and convenient for access to town. Whether you’re traveling from within Michigan or beyond, the forest is easily reachable, with plenty of scenic views along the way.

What to Expect at the Little Presque Isle Cabins

This rustic cabin has everything you need for a cozy, off-grid experience. Inside, you’ll find:

  • Two full-size bunk beds with mattresses.
  • A woodstove for heat during colder months.
  • firewood provided from September 15th to June 1st.
  • A dining table and benches for shared meals or relaxation.

Outside, the cabin has a picnic table and fire ring—perfect for gathering under a star-filled sky. However, there’s no electricity, so you’ll need to pack bedding, lighting, and cooking supplies.

A hand pump for water is available nearby, but it doesn’t work in winter. If visiting during colder months, be ready to haul in your own water.

Luckily, an outhouse is just 30 yards away, making things a little more convenient!
